VILLUPURAM: Two days after a 17-year-old Irula girl was attacked in front of revenue officials at T Parangini village in Villupuram district, an FIR was registered by the Kiliyanur police on Monday night. The girl had earlier filed a complaint with Kiliyanur police against four vanniyar men for slapping her and pushing her to the ground for applying for a community certificate.

M Dhanalakshmi wanted to join the MBBS course and so wanted the community certificate to avail the quota benefits. Based on her petition for the certificate, a team of revenue officials, headed by Tiruvannamalai RDO K Rajendran, visited the girl’s house at T Parangini village on Friday, and conducted inquiry with the villagers including a few vanniyar men who lived close by. While the RDO was conducting an inquiry, a group of Vanniyar men objected to the girl getting a scheduled caste certificate and attacked her.
